QuietWarmth Radiant
Heat System
MP Global Products has taken its acoustical and insulating technology and
combined them with ThermoSoft® FiberThermics heating elements to
create a radiant heat system ideally suited for floating wood, laminate floors
and MP Global's SnapStone tiles. QuietWarmth deadens impact sound
from hard surface flooring while making the surface "toasty warm"
and helping to heat the room.
The company says that, because electric floor heating is more efficient than
electric baseboard heat, QuietWarmth can save homeowners 30 to 50 per
cent on their energy bills. Also, as QuietWarmth replaces typical floating
floor underlayments, the total thickness from subfloor to floor surface remains
just around 3/8".

Plug1 Gas Outlet
The new Plug1 gas outlet from Maxitrol Company looks and works just like a
regular electrical socket. A standard plug on an appliance connector is pushed
into the Plug1 and, with the flip of a switch, the appliance is connected
to the gas supply.
The Plug1 makes it easy for installers to service or install clothes dryers,
gas ranges, gas fireplaces, space heaters and more.
An integrated high-temperature-activated shut-off device and an integrated
excess flow valve shut off the gas flow when a predefined temperature or flow
rate, respectively, occurs. The CSA-certified Plug1 is approved for both natural
gas and LPG.

Polyurethane Rustic
Beams
MTA Caledon Enterprises
introduces Polyurethane Beams, a simple and inexpensive way to add dramatic
accents to ceilings. Available in two styles - European and Rustic - the lightweight
beams are three sided and open ended, which means they can be installed over
existing structures such as "I" beams, plumbing pipes, electrical
wires or conduit.
Polyurethane is impervious to moisture so it won't rot or deteriorate, and
MTA's beams are resistant to termites as well as to environmental degradation.
Polyurethane Beams can be used inside or outside and painted to match any
décor.

Sound
Control for Walls and Ceilings
The RSIC-1 Sound Isolation Clip from Wilrep
Ltd. is a compact rubber/steel isolator that is designed to hold a standard
7/8" steel furring channel, isolating it from the structure. It breaks
the transfer of both structural and airborne sound and can be used in virtually
any wall or ceiling assembly that uses gypsum drywall. Performance starts
at a 20-point increase in the STC rating.
By eliminating the need for staggered or double-stud construction, the RSIC-1
Clip offers significant construction cost savings. An STC value of 62 can
be achieved with single-stud construction.

Hot
Water Delivery System
Wirsbo introduces its D'MAND
Hot Water Delivery System, which provides hot water quickly while saving energy
and water. Once the pump is user-activated, hot water reaches the fixture
within seconds, which means water isn't wasted while waiting for it to warm
up. A temperature sensor detects when hot water reaches the fixture and turns
off the pump. The pump only runs when hot water is called for - saving money
and energy.
The D'MAND system uses Structured Plumbing layouts, featuring Wirsbo AQUAPEX
tubing and Engineered Plastic Branch Manifolds.

and framing materials. For a $75 list up-charge, the skylights allow for a
custom result at a fraction of the cost of custom.

Dual
Faucet Handles
Grohe Canada, with F.A. Porsche Design Studio, came up with this new design
for a bathroom faucet: the F1 lever. The hot and cold handles are stacked
one above the other on the centreset, thanks to a new cartridge system. The
two levers may be operated separately or with a single movement of the hand
to set the right water temperature. This is the first faucet ever able to
do this and it won a recent design award. Grohe Canada has dealers across
Canada.
Solderless
Copper Bonding
Just-for-Copper Pro (JFC PRO) Solderless Copper Bonding is the latest
addition to the Just-for-Copper product line. Developed expressly for the
professional plumber, JFC PRO is non-toxic, tasteless, odourless, non-flammable
and certified safe for potable water by NSF/ANSI-61.
JFC PRO is a one-part, scientifically formulated anaerobic polymer requiring
up to 70 per cent less time to bond rigid copper pipes to fittings than traditional
hot soldering (sweating). It eliminates the risk of fire and burns and, once
bonded, it is as strong and permanent as hot sweating copper pipe.
JFC PRO is ideal for all new-build and repair plumbing applications, HVAC,
food processing, hydro-heating systems and various manufacturing processes.

Hat Box Toilet
Kohler Co. may change
bathroom design with this radical new low-flow toilet: the Purist Hatbox,
an example of melding fresh style with function. The tankless toilet is not
only a bold new look, but it also sports a two-horsepower electric pump in
the toilet bowl that provides a powerful flush using 1.6 gallons of water.
The Hatbox toilet comes in six colours. Notes David Kohler, president of Kohler
Kitchen & Bath Group: "Why should the appearance and design of the
toilet remain the same as it has been for the last century?" The new
Hatbox was rolled out this summer at Kohler dealers.

Micro-sized Combined
Heat and Power System
Climate Energy LLC and American Hondo Motor Company have collaborated on a
major breakthrough in residential home heating: an appliance that creates
electricity from the energy used to heat a house. Building upon proven mechanical,
electrical and space-heating technology, Climate Energy's Micro-CHP System
will provide similar advantages to Honda's hybrid automobiles: energy efficiency,
environmental benefit and affordability. The new product also promises enhanced
thermal comfort, ultra-quiet operation and quick payback. The company says
that for the average user, the Micro-CHP System will generate up to 4,500
kilowatt hours of electricity, which translates into roughly $600 in reduced
annual electric costs. HB
