Construction hiring to increase 36 per cent

May 27, 2022

According to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, Canadian employers anticipate a dynamic hiring climate for the third quarter (3Q) of 2022, including a 36 per cent increase in construction workers when compared with the second quarter.
“Employment prosperity across Canada is strong,” said Darlene Minatel, manager of ManpowerGroup Canada. “These survey results indicate a period of vigorous opportunity for job seekers. Eight quarters of consistent growth suggest that employers have adjusted well to business volatility triggered by the pandemic.”
The survey of more than 1,000 employers across Canada reveals that 47 per cent plan to increase their staffing levels in 3Q 2022 and 11 per cent anticipate cutbacks—a net employment gain of 36 per cent.
Meanwhile, 40 per cent of employers surveyed expect their current staffing levels to remain unchanged.
Nationwide, employers in most industry sectors surveyed expect to add staff in 3Q 2022. The strongest outlook reported is the manufacturing sector (up 55 per cent). Banking, finance, insurance and real estate hiring is expected to advance 42 per cent.
Ontario has a vigorous employment outlook for 3Q 2022 (up 50 per cent from 2Q 2022). Survey results indicate employment outlook in Quebec and Western Canada (both up 39 per cent) are also strong. The Atlantic Region outlook falls 14 per cent when comparing 3Q 2022 with hiring in 2Q 2022.
