Mattamy Homes, North America’s largest privately-owned home builder, has officially broken ground on an Edmonton suburban subdivision with a plan to construct more than 1,700 homes.
The new development is an indication of robust residential construction this year in Alberta. As of August 2021, Alberta had a total of 2,660 housing starts—up 53 per cent from August 2020. Canadian housing starts decreased by 4.1 per cent over the same 12-month period, the Alberta government noted.
So far in 2021, starts of new single-family detached houses increased by 73.1 per cent in Alberta. Starts of apartment units, which comprised more than a third of all units, increased by 88.1 per cent, year-over-year.
Mattamy’s Hearthstone at Cambrian Crossing, located east of Edmonton in Sherwood Park, will include single-family detached houses, townhomes, and semi-detached homes.
The development is designated for two schools and includes natural pathway system, a wetland and forested ecosystem that will be protected and incorporated into the community.
"Everyone on the Mattamy team is thrilled to announce the ground breaking of Hearthstone, as this community is really going to shape the future of living in this market," said President of Mattamy's Alberta Division Collin Campbell.
Hearthstone at Cambrian Crossing is expected to open for sale in 2023.
Mattamy Homes has over 40 years of history in North America. In Canada, the company is active in the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, Calgary and the Edmonton area.
