Ultra-lightweight concrete expands design elements

Thin, ultra-lightweight concrete panels proved a hit at the Vancouver Interior Design Show this month—both renovators and home builders are contemplating how they can be used for interior design treatments.
The Matt Concrete Panels are three feet by five feet and half-an-inch thick and, according to the company, can easily be mounted as feature walls and fireplace surrounds.
The new ultra-lightweight Matt Concrete Panels weigh 10 pounds compared to a typical four-foot by eight-foot sheet of drywall that weighs 52 pounds. The Matt Concrete Panels start at $25 per panel.
“Our panels allow you to add concrete where concrete was not previously possible,” said Colleen Orr of Distinct Interior. Distinct Interior developed the Matt Concrete Panels and manufactures them in Vancouver.
Orr said the ultra-lightweight panels are made from the proprietary substrate skinned with concrete.
