OTTAWA, ON - The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) can always be counted on for providing interesting statistical data and well written reports. These recent publications are available for free download. Printed editions are priced and can be ordered by calling toll free at 1-800-668- 2642.

CHS: Residential Building Activity - Construction Expenditures and Building Permits
Tables for Provinces provide detailed data for each market area. Tables contain data on residential and non-residential construction as well as on the national level public and private expenditures. The table for major centres provides detailed data for each market area on building permits issued for residential and non-residential construction. Source: Statistics Canada (CANSIM II).

CHS: Housing Costs - Price Indices
Tables for Major centres provide detailed consumer price index data for each market area for current year as well as the previous three years for regional cities housing components and from the New House Price Indexes, data for land only, house only and total selling price. An annual table provides statistics on selected housing components for shelter (i.e. rented accommodation and owned accommodation, water, fuel and electricity and all items. There is also a table providing statistics on basic union wage rates indexes for selected residential construction trades (i.e. carpenter, crane operator, cement finisher, electrician, labourer, plumber etc.) for current year and previous three years.
