The 2011 SAM Award theme—Create and
Transform—captured the imagination of new
home builders, renovators and developers across
Canada, and as you’ll see from these images, the
bar has been set very high for the coming year.
“The quality and creativity they have demonstrated
is truly remarkable and exciting. We
are very proud to see our industry represented
by these fine projects,” said CHBA President,
Ron Olson.
Winners were announced at the 2012 CHBA
National Conference in Mont-Tremblant, Québec
on March 17.

2011 CHBA National SAM Awards winners:
Marketing Excellence Award
Watermark Development LP of Calgary won the Marketing Excellence Award for its
project, Watermark at Bearspaw. The award goes to the CHBA builder member whose
single project combines the best overall achievements in marketing. The award is based
on the cumulative score attained in at least four Marketing Award categories.
Green Home Award
Denim Homes of New Minas, NS won the Green Home Award, presented to a new home
builder or developer member for outstanding environmental performance in a new singledetached home.
Community Development Award
The Community Development Award, recognizing members’ achievements in creating
attractive, exciting and innovative communities, was presented to Portrait Homes of
Richmond, BC for its project, Silver Ridge.
New Home Awards – Production
Sterling Homes Edmonton Ltd of Edmonton won for Oakshire in the single-detached,
under 1,500 square feet category.
Doug Tarry Homes of St. Thomas, ON won for The Kenwood in the single-detached
between 1,500 square feet and 2,200 square feet category.
Geranium Homes Ltd of Markham, ON won for Forest Trail Estates – The Alderley
Model in the single-detached category for more than 2,200 square feet.
Abstract Developments Inc. of Victoria won the New Home Award for single-attached
homes for Terra Verde.
New Home Awards – Custom
Whitestone Developments Ltd. of Halifax won for the best single-detached home under
2,500 square feet.
Coastal Construction of Victoria won for the category of 2,500 to 4,000 square feet.
Homescape Building & Design Inc. of Summerland, BC won in the single-detached,
over 4,000 square feet category.
Adera Development Corporation of Vancouver won in the multi-family project category
for, zen (Salus Phase C & D).
Home Renovation Awards
Pioneer Craftsmen Ltd of Kitchener, ON won the award for kitchen renovations. Harald
Koehn Construction Ltd. of Vancouver won in the Any Room category. The award for
Best Addition was presented to TQ Construction Ltd. of Burnaby, B.C. The Whole
House award for a project of $500,000 or less went to Citta Construction Ltd. of
Saanichton, BC, while Amstead Construction Ltd. of Stittsville, ON won for over $500,000.
Marketing Awards
Six Marketing Awards were also presented in the following categories: Print Ad, Direct
Mail Promotion, Website, Project Signage and Logo, Brochure/kit and Sales Office. A
